Gordon resident shoots, kills Baldwin Co. man after confrontation

The man shot to death Thursday night in Gordon has been identified as Taurus Javon Lewis, 37, of Baldwin County.

Gordon police Chief Mike Hall said Lewis was shot after a confrontation outside of a home at 110 Burney Road.

Hall says Jeffrey King, 29, who lives at the house, told police Lewis got out of a car and approached him with a gun.

King then fired several times killing Lewis.

Metro Macon's unemployment rate increased to 8.2 percent in June, up from 7.9 percent in May.

The rate was 9.4 percent in June 2013, according to a Georgia Department of Labor news release.

The unemployment rate for the Middle Georgia region increased also to 8.3 percent in June, the news release states. It was 7.9 percent in May, but it was 9.4 percent in June 2013.

"If they would have done it right in the first place, we would have had this addressed," said Jones County resident Richard Tipton.

He was one of dozens who gathered for a Jones County commission meeting where fire station expenses were questioned.

"They're not taking accountability or responsibility for the loss of our tax dollars," he said, referring to members who approved construction without putting a project up for bid.
