For only the second time in recent memory, Macon Animal Control will be open -- albeit briefly -- on Saturday, June 2. Many area residents interested in adopting a dog from the facility cannot get there during the shelter's normal weekday-only operating hours due to work or school. The special adoption event, planned for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., provides an opportunity for more adopters to visit the shelter, where time is rapidly running out for the animals.
The cats and kittens have all left the building. More than 40 dogs have left, too, headed for new lives with new families, or bound for rescue and a foster home while they keep looking for a family to adopt them.
Macon Animal Control shelter is shutting down June 6 for 3 to 5 days, and all of the remaining dogs at the shelter must be out by then or be killed.
