Get Started on Being an Author: Hints From Glenda!

Helpful Hints for Writers From Glenda!
1. Have a designated time to write, every day preferably.
2. Keep a journal or two or three. Take one when you travel.
3. Be observant and record ideas in your journal. Ideas for stories, poems, sketches, and tales.
4. Keep a list of interesting/favorite words. Call this list a "Word Bank." Research words you like.
5. Use tools of writers, reference for grammar rules, dictionary, thesaurus, poetic devices, rhyming dictionary, etc.
6. Choose a type of writing you enjoy: short story, poetry, drama, music lyrics, etc. Then write your selections.
7. Have a plan or outline to get started. It can be changed or altered, but provides an initial direction.
8. Know your grammar!! A reliable handbook would be helpful.
9. Find your writer's voice. You might want to research "Voice" and read various authors.
