CGTC Holds Career Fair

Central Georgia Technical College is scheduled to hold a career fair on Thursday 28.

This event will be held at the Macon campus in the I Building.

CGTC students should:

-Bring their student ID

-Wear proper attire

-Bring copies of their resume

Get Ready for the Daylily Festival

The Daylily Festival promises to feature an array of activities for families.

On June 3 and 4, plan to spread out among the trees in the Pecan Orchard of Gray Elementary School, and other surrounding venues.

There will be over 100 craftsmen and exhibitors, food, a Teddy Bear Parade and other children's activities, a car show, horseshoe tournament, 5K Fun Run, live music, golf tournament, daylily flower show and more.

 

Governor Announces Jones Co. Work Ready

Governor Deal announced Jones County as one of the eight new Work Ready counties.

Jones County earned 915 Work Ready Certificates, 178 percent more than the goal. Jones also increased the graduation rate to 76 percent. from 65 percent.

That's according to a news release from the Governor's office.

To earn the Certified Work Ready Community designation, counties must demonstrate a commitment to improving public high school graduation rates through a measurable increase, and show a specified percentage of the available and current workforce has obtained Work Ready Certificates.

Each community created a team of economic development, government and education partners to meet the certification criteria. Counties are given three years to reach the goals necessary to earn the designation.

Harvey's Supermarket Grand Opening

Harvey's Supermarket will open Wednesday, March 30.

The grocery store will open in the Gateway Shopping Center.

Sen. Brown and Rep. Epps Hold Public Hearings

Sen. Robert Brown (D-Macon) and Rep. Bubber Epps (D-Dry Branch) together will hold two public hearings on Saturday, March 6.

At the first, to be held at the Twiggs County Courthouse, Sen. Brown and Rep. Epps will seek input on House Bill 274 and Senate Bill 110 that could affect a Twiggs County landfill, and will also seek input on proposed salary increases for the Twiggs County Board of Education.

The second public hearing will be held at the Bibb Substation on Jeffersonville Road, also to discuss House Bill 274 and Senate Bill 110. House Bill 274, if passed, would re-introduce yard trimmings and vegetative matter to landfills in Georgia.

What: Public Hearing # 1 to discuss proposed changes affecting the Twiggs County landfill and to discuss proposed salary increases for Twiggs County Board of Education

Monster Truck Visits Local Store

Predator, the monster truck will visit Advanced Auto Parts Friday, February 24.

The driver will sign autographs and will also allow for photo opportunities.

A coloring contest for kids will also take place.

The event is from 2 until 6 p.m.

Advanced Auto Parts is located on W. Clinton St. in Gray.
