April is National Poetry Month

April is National Poetry Month

April is National Poetry Month and we're looking for your original poems at the bookstore in Downtown Gray. Bring your original poems in and get a free gift, plus be registered for the grand prize to be drawn the end of April. With your approval, we'll be publishing original poems on Kema's Bookstore facebook page.

We'll also be publishing in the bookstore newsletter and in the Jones County News.

All ages are invited to submit your poetry, so we can share your thoughts and ideas.

Jean Wooten, a resident at Lynn Haven Health & Rehabilitation, is one of our very talented local poets and has submitted several poems in this year's national poetry recognition.  Several of our local Jones County teens have also submitted poetry.

Credit Union Receives Diamond Awards for Marketing Achievements

Robins Federal Credit Union was recently honored with a pair of Diamond Awards, which recognize outstanding marketing and business development achievements in the credit union industry.

The awards were presented by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Marketing and Business Development Council, a national network comprised of nearly 1,000 credit union marketing and business development professionals. Awards are given in each of 33 categories ranging from advertising to community events and beyond.

Robins Federal Credit Union not only won the Direct Mail Series category, but also won the Community/PR program category for its entry, entitled SWAG Patrol. The SWAG Patrol is a community initiative founded by Robins Federal Credit Union in 2010. Members of the Robins Federal Credit Union SWAG Patrol travel throughout Central Georgia performing random acts of kindness for others, and ask those they meet to pay it forward by doing good for others.

Jones County January Unemployment Rate

Jones County January Unemployment Rate

Jones County's unemployment rate for January was 9.4 percent, the Georgia Department of Labor news release says.

That's compared to metro Macon's 9.9 percent unemployment rate for January.

But that's still less than a year ago, at 10.5 percent.

Sam Hall with the Georgia Department of Labor says the increases should not be cause for concern because seasonal workers leaving temporary holiday jobs play a major factor in the variation.

He says the important thing is the rate is lower than it was last year.

Gingrich, Paul, Santorum and Romney won't be the only choices here in Central Georgia on March 6, Super Tuesday.

If you live in Jones County's River North community, there's a special ballot question paying for more than a $1 million in bonds to improve their water and sewer system.

River North is a special tax district and only the people who live there will vote on the bonds.
