Jones County clerk convicted of theft | Crime
Jones County's county clerk Connie Lee Mize was sentenced to 10 days in the Putnam County jail after being convicted of shoplifting. In June, Connie Lee Mize was accused of stealing items from the Wal-Mart in Putnam. Her lawyer blamed the problem on a faulty scanner at the store. Eatonton police chief Kent Lawrence said Friday that a six-person jury convicted her on a theft misdemeanor Thursday night, after a four-day trial. That trial included a Wal Mart loss-prevention worker who testified for about nine hours. Chief Lawrence said Mize was accused of stealing about 10 items, valued at around $100. She was also sentenced to a year's probation. The Jones County Commission's home page still lists Mize as county clerk and says she has worked for the board since 2002. 13WMAZ could not reach Mize or the board for comment Friday afternoon.
