My Teacher Is Tops: Kandy Kemp | Education
Title (Max 100 Characters)
Kandy Kemp says she loves giving her students the tools they need to score big on their tests and in life.
Jones County High Junior Summer Royal says she nominated Kemp because she taught her how to believe in herself.
In her nomination letter, Royal wrote, "My first progress report, I got a 67 and I knew I had to try harder. So from them on, I started going to tutoring every morning at 7 a.m." After spending some extra time in the classroom, Royal says she began to understand and enjoy learning math. She continued in her letter, "Today, I got my report card, and I'm making an 80 average in math. I'm so proud of myself, but I couldn't have done it without Ms. Kemp."
Some of her students say Kemp taught them the importance of hard work.
Undre Williams Jr., a junior at Jones County High, says, "She explains it more and breaks it down more. I probably wouldn't be passing if I wasn't in her class right now."
Another student, Jaymi Carey, says, "She'll help you hands on with the things you need help with. She's not going to let you fail."
Many of Kemp's students say she brightens their day with her positive attitude and willingness to help.
Royal says, "Whenever I'm down, I know I can talk to her about anything. I never thought I could walk into a math class with a big smile on my face."
Kemp says she tries to teach her students to always look for the positive in any problem. She says, "You hope that's what's happening, but you don't always get to hear it from them."
