Monroe, Jones Counties Partner to Purchase Two Rescue Boats, Truck

Jones County and Monroe County Emergency Management Agencies teamed up to write a grant that landed them two rescue boats and a truck.

The purchases were announced on Monroe County EMA's Facebook page.

The post also noted the two EMAs partner to create a team of firefighters who will be trained to handle water rescues.

Smoke Could be from Wednesday Controlled Burn

If you are smelling smoke in Bibb County, it may be from a controlled burn that is still on fire.

According to the Georgia Forestry Commission...there were permits issued in Jones County for controlled burns yesterday and that is the likely cause of the smoke.

The burn occurred on Highway 18 west at upper river road and a separate burn on stage coach road.

There are no burn permits issued for today.

Recycle Your Christmas Tree This Weekend

You have an opportunity to recycle your Christmas tree into mulch this weekend in the "Bring One for the Chipper 2013."

Your tree will then be turned into mulch and available for you to take home.

The event is open Saturday, January 5 from 9 a.m. until noon.

Bring your tree to the Overland Convenience Center in Gray. That's located at 153 Overland Way.

Gray Third Grader Wins Fire Safety Poster Contest

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens presented awards Thursday recognizing winners of the annual “Excellence in Fire Safety” awards, and the winning students of the statewide Fire Safety Poster and Essay contests, according to a Georgia Department of Insurance news release.

Third-grader McKenzie Simpson of Dames Ferry Elementary School won first place in the Fire Safety Poster Contest.

The award presentation took place in Forsyth, Ga. in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Month.
