Tens of thousands without power in Central Georgia

Tens of thousands of people are without power in Central Georgia this morning.

About 10,000 people are without power in Bibb County, 10,000 people in Baldwin County and more than 500 in Jones County, according to Georgia Power's map alone.

More than 11,000 of Washington EMC's 15,000 customers don't have power due to blown transformers and downed trees. Washington EMC services Washington, Johnson, Hancock, Baldwin, Warren, Laurens, Emanuel, Glascock, Jefferson, and Wilkinson counties.

Ice storm brings power outages

Georgia utility companies say more than 177,000 customers were without power as ice coated trees brought branches and power lines down.

Georgia Power reported that more than 104,000 customers were without power shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday.

More than 71,000 of them were in metro Atlanta. Another 29,000 customers were in eastern Georgia; and 1,340 were without power in parts of west Georgia.

Winter storm watch for Central Georgia

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for all of central Georgia beginning Tuesday morning until Wednesday afternoon.

A wintry mix is expected for central and southern parts of the state beginning Tuesday afternoon. Rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow are likely Tuesday evening until Wednesday morning.

DNR aims to increase quail population

DNR aims to increase quail population

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources says they hope a partnership with numerous organizations in the state will boost the quail population.

Earlier this evening several groups signed the Georgia Bobwhite Quail Technical Team Memorandum of Agreement.

It's a mouthful, but what it means is that, DNR will provide free help to farmers or land owners that want to tailor their landscape to make it more quail friendly.

  • Our Cotton Pickin' Christmas Tree Farm, Hawkinsville. Check their Facebook page for updates.Pick your own pumpkin from the patch. Also enjoy cider or cocoa on the porch while the kids climb the hay mountain. Open 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

New Cell Tower Comes to Gray

You may or may notnotice a stronger cell signal in Gray.

That's thanks to AT&T's new cell tower on Eatonton Highway, according to a release.

It's all a part of the company's "efforts to drive innovation and extend its mobile Internet network."
