Keep Jones Beautiful Monthly Meeting

The Keep Jones Beautiful Commission monthly meeting has been scheduled for February 21 at 5:30 p.m.

The meeting will take place at WE Knox Civic Center.

The Commission wil plant eight trees on February 18 in honor of National Arbor Day.

Clean Air Campaign Hosts Student Art Contest

The Clean Air Campaign is hosting a kindergarten through twelfth grade art contest.

Elementary school students can compete in a comic strip contest. Middle and high school students can compete in a video contest.

Winning art or videos will be featured on the Clean Air Campaign's website, social media accounts as well as in the campaign's printed materials. Donations will also be made to each winner's school science, environmental or art program.

The art contest is open to all Georgia students.

Interested teachers, parents and students are encouraged to visit CleanAirCampaign.org to learn about entry requirements and submission details. Art contest submissions must be postmarked by April 15.

A panel of judges will select first, second and third place, along with any honorable mentions. Winners will be announced during Air Quality Awareness Week: May 2-6, 2011.

Tri-County EMC Foundation Grants $21,800 in December

The Tri-County Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) Foundation Board approved 15 applications last week.

The approved applications total $21,800 in Operation Roundup funds.

The funds will benefit organizations or individuals in area communities.

 The organizations that received funds in December month are:

Central GA Christian Food Bank – $2,500 to purchase food items for the needy

Compassionate Care Clinic – $2000 to purchase dental equipment and supplies for 2500+ patients

GC&SU Foundation, Inc. – $1,000 to fund the construction of a wheelchair ramp for a local individual

Georgia Initiative for Community Housing for Gray/Jones County – $1,000 to assist in home repairs for up to 10 needy families
