Jones County man spins out on icy roads

Charles Mintz of Gray has survived 87 years, World War II, and Thursday, a simple trip home from Macon. "I've been lucky all my life, and I'm still lucky. Even with this accident, I consider it lucky," he says. Mintz was driving down a hill on Upper River Road in Jones County when he hit a patch of ice and spun into the woods.

Winter storm watch for Central Georgia

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for all of central Georgia beginning Tuesday morning until Wednesday afternoon.

A wintry mix is expected for central and southern parts of the state beginning Tuesday afternoon. Rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow are likely Tuesday evening until Wednesday morning.

Casey will be our fearless leader and will help us get started - bring your own supplies (notebook, pencil, pen, etc.) or you can purchase inexpensive supplies here at the bookstore.

The first meeting will be on Thursday, Jan. 30 from 6-8 p.m.

Group will meet the last Thursday of each month -at Kema's Hobby located at 109 Atlanta Rd, in Downtown Gray, by the railroad tracks - 6-8 p.m.

MLK to get new memorial at Ga. State Capitol

ATLANTA (WXIA) -- After more than 80 years as the Georgia State Capitol's most prominent statue, the likeness of 19th century white supremacist politician and newspaperman Tom Watson was quietly removed the day after Thanksgiving.

That prompted some civil rights leaders to ask that it be replaced with a statue of Martin Luther King, Jr.

State Representative Tyrone Brooks (D-Atlanta) even introduced a bill to make it happen.
