Four community organizations Gray Station Better Hometown, City of Gray Downtown Development Authority, PLAN’s Cultural Arts & Leisure Committee and the History & Heritage organization are working toward acquiring the Gray Station Depot.

An online petition asks community members to help show support and states that the final goal for the depot is to have it listed in the "National Trust’s Register of Historic Places, submit a TE Grant application for the restoration of its exterior and rehabilitation of its interior, and eventually reopen it to the public as the City of Gray Welcome Center & History Museum."

Local photographer's Work Added to Jekyll Island Collection

Local photographer's Work Added to Jekyll Island Collection

David Veal has an obvious love of the coast. It's a constant subject of his photography, and he spends quite a lot of time there. So when his work was selected for the permanent collection of the new Jekyll Island Convention Center, it just made sense.

"I had heard that their interior designer for the convention center was looking for local and regional art to decorate the center," he explained during a phone interview. So he emailed her some samples of his work.

She must have liked what she saw, because they later spoke on the phone. It was then he mentioned a book in which his work had been published — "Jekyll Island -- The Nearest Faraway Place." And like puzzle pieces falling into place, the rest just came together. The designer ended up selecting about 20 images from the book to feature throughout the new center, including a black and white version of Veal's photograph.
