Broun Calls for TSA Chief's Resignation
Politics

U.S. Representative Paul Broun Wednesday explained why he wants the resignation of Transportation Safety Adminstration chief John Pistole and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, citing what he considers a failure to tighten airline security.

Broun has in the past criticized the TSA's hiring of airport screeners at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport before their security checks and background reports officially cleared.

In an appearance on Eyewitness News Mornin', Broun also criticized the TSA's security procedures.  He accused the agency of inefficiency in screening processes and said agents search travelers unnecessarily.

Broun explained why he broke with the majority of his fellow Republicans by voting against legislation imposing harsher punishments on illegal immigrants who build tunnels between the U.S. and Mexico.  The congressman said he felt the bill was unnecessary, since it addressed an activity already against the law.

Paul Broun represents Georgia District 10.  A medical doctor by profession, he was first elected in July 2007.  Under new redistricting maps, the realigned district now includes all of Baldwin county, Putnam, Hancock, and Washington counties.
