 I am emailing to keep you informed of the current affairs in our state's legislature. As you know, political issues move quickly during session, so I wanted to make sure that I keep you informed about the issues concerning our state, our district, and your county.

5K Race at Wells Elementary

5K Race at Wells Elementary

A 5K race is set for Saturday at Wells Elementary school.

Thirty-three kids will partcipate in the race.

If you'd like to join the race, you can register up until race time. The cost is $15.

Race starts at 8 a.m.

Jones County Election Results, Voter Turnout

The bonds question passes with 213 votes. That's with 78% of the vote. River North community in Jones County voted on a special ballot question about paying more than $1 million in bonds to improve the water and sewer system.

22.23 percent of registered Jones County voters turned out for the presidential primary election.

Here's how Jones County voted in the presidential primaries:

Newt Gingrich: 1584
Ron Paul: 140
Mitt Romney: 598
Rick Santorum: 672

'Super Tuesday' Voters Will Decide Questions in Jones County

Gingrich, Paul, Santorum and Romney won't be the only choices here in Central Georgia on March 6, Super Tuesday.

If you live in Jones County's River North community, there's a special ballot question paying for more than a $1 million in bonds to improve their water and sewer system.

River North is a special tax district and only the people who live there will vote on the bonds.

Senator Staton Honors Wesleyan College


Sen. Cecil Staton serves as Senate Majority Whip.  He represents the 18th Senate District, which includes portions of Bibb, Crawford, Houston, Jones, and Monroe counties.

 Sen. Cecil Staton (R-Macon) presented Wesleyan College with Senate Resolution 797 in the Senate Chamber on Wednesday, commemorating their 175th Anniversary and the schools continued tradition of academic excellence. February 29, 2012, was also recognized as “Macon Day” at the State Capitol.

 “It was an honor to recognize Wesleyan College on their prestigious legacy in educating women,” said Sen. Staton. “Since its inception, Wesleyan College has educated some of Georgia’s best and brightest women and is one of middle Georgia’s finest institutions of higher learning.”

The Chamber hosts a ribbon cutting for West Clinton Tire at 11:30 a.m.

Everyone is invited to attend their ribbon cutting.

Juliette Opry is Back

Hello everybody after three months of hibernation, Juliette Opry is back. We open our season Saturday March 3rd at 6 p.m. with picking on the porch and this month we are proud to present local talent Cabin Point.

Cabin Point is a group of good friends, and overall music lovers. They are a four-piece group from the Central Georgia region with a bound passion for this great American sound! Their influences are all the true great pioneers who have laid the foundation that they are all so eager to build upon.
